AI-powered issue response built by Harvard-trained technologists who also happen to be hosts.
Our story
StayGuard was founded by a team of technologists and veteran short-term rental operators with deep backgrounds in systems engineering, artificial intelligence, and hands-on property management.
Our founding team brings over 15 years of combined experience building scalable operations at Google, Airbnb, and high-growth tech startups. We have formal training in Agentic AI from Harvard and more than a decade of experience actively hosting our homes and investment properties. We've managed everything from 5-star guest experiences to middle-of-the-night plumbing disasters and untimely fuse failures while traveling internationally.
The problem we experienced firsthand: As hosts running properties alongside demanding careers in tech, we faced a critical constraint. We wanted the tax advantages of material participation, but being truly available 24/7 meant constant interruptions. Canceled meetings, scrambled vendor coordination, and the perpetual anxiety of waiting for the next guest text. Even with meticulously maintained properties and every preventive measure in place, emergencies still happened.
We noticed a pattern in how emergencies actually get resolved: Success wasn't about having the perfect vendor on speed dial or being a plumbing expert yourself. It was about fast, intelligent triage and calm coordination across multiple parties, often via text message rather than phone calls in the middle of meetings. Most local trades preferred SMS. Guests expected instant messaging. But existing solutions were either full-service property managers (expensive and control-stripping) or generic on-call services that didn't understand the unique demands of short-term rentals.
So we built StayGuard initially for ourselves. We applied the same systems thinking and automation principles we'd used to build infrastructure at scale in Big Tech, but designed specifically for the messy, real-world chaos of STR emergencies. AI-powered triage to classify and route issues. SMS-first coordination with vetted local vendors. Structured incident tracking that maintains material participation status while removing us from the hot seat.
What started as an internal tool to protect our own properties and peace of mind became something other independent hosts kept asking about. We realized the same approach that let us maintain control, tax benefits, and sanity could work for any host facing the same impossible trade-offs.
Today, StayGuard combines automated intelligence with human judgment. AI handles the pattern matching and vendor dispatch, while you stay in control of your business and your sleep schedule. We're hosts who became technologists, and technologists who became hosts. We built what we wished existed and we are committed to improving and expanding how technology simplifies hosting, one guest and one stay at a time.
